Finally... the ARFID module for the Eating Disorder Examination is now available online!
Good things take time: We have been working on the ARFID module for EDE for a long time, continuously optimizing it. The current version 2.1 can now be found on the publication server of Leipzig University – in both English and German. Online training is available on request. We hope that everyone interested in the standardized assessment of ARFID will find it useful!

Goodbye tears and welcoming smiles!
Last and this week, our doctoral students Elisabeth and Anne had their last meeting, which means that half a year has passed already. It was so nice having you in the office! We look forward to seeing you again and to reading the exciting papers you are currently finishing.
At the same time, we warmly welcome Madlen and Josefa – they will be with us for six months as part of their doctoral research. And Lena is also back – that's great news!
Thank you again for the delicious cakes – they also remind us to practise food-specific exposure in our daily work and enjoy it mindfully.

Ciao Caro!
Today, Caro(line) attended her last doctoral students' meeting. After half a year, she will be leaving us for a year of practical work and will be going to work at a hospital in South Africa (wow). Caro has enriched our team very much - with her scientific and footballing expertise and warmth - and we will miss her. Have a great, educational time in South Africa and send us a few photos of the summer – we look forward to welcoming you back to the office soon.

In the fall, not only do the falling leaves increase, but also the slides at congresses: It's congress week!
On Wednesday Anja will be (virtually) at the 3rd Biennial Conference on Cognitive & Clinical Neuropsychology in Chennai, India, to present findings from our NIRSBED study ("Exploratory randomized trial of neurofeedback using near-infrared spectroscopy and electroencephalography for binge-eating disorder."). A great opportunity to reach a new audience.
On Thursday, Anja and Martina de Zwaan are organizing an exciting symposium on “Eating disturbances in obesity: Clinical implications” at the 40th meeting of the German Obesity Society (DAG) in Cologne. Elizabeth, who we had the pleasure of welcoming as a guest scientist last year, will also be there.

For ears and eyes!
Today we have something for your ears. Anja is featured in a new podcast about binge-eating disorder. Have a listen!
We would also like to draw your attention to a recently published paper by our doctoral student Jördis Kaden (congratulation!). Take a look at whether Cohen's Stress-Buffering Model can be applied to weight bias internalization in pre-bariatric patients.

Impressions from the 30th EDRS meeting in Sitges!
Last week, Anja and Ricarda attended the XXXth Annual Meeting of the Eating Disorders Research Society in Sitges, Spain. They listened to many inspiring and diverse talks (on autism spectrum disorders, highly processed foods, TikTok algorithms), gave a talk in the top-rated abstract session (Anja - again, many congratulations!), presented a poster (Ricarda), and exchanged ideas with wonderful colleagues from around the world. Now let's digest our impressions and look forward to the next EDRS congress in California.

We will report on the conference and are already looking forward to meeting colleagues and the fruitful exchange.

Back to the office!
During the summer and vacation time, it was a bit quiet around the news in our working group. But of course we were still busy conducting studies, writing proposals and papers, supervising and motivating PhD students and doing all the other nice scientific tasks.
Now our team is complete again 🙂 Here you can see a part of it!
With pleasure we would like to draw your attention to two papers that were published over the summer:
Goldschmidt, A. B., Jeong, K., Yu, L., Egbert, A. H., Schmidt, R., & Hilbert, A. (2024). Executive functioning and treatment outcome among adolescents undergoing cognitive-behavioral therapy for binge-eating disorder. Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 10.1111/jcpp.14031. Advance online publication. https://doi.org/10.1111/jcpp.14031
Kaden, J., Hübner, C., Mansfeld, T., Sander, J., Seyfried, F., Kaiser, S., Dietrich, A., & Hilbert, A. (2024). The application of Cohen's stress-buffering model for weight bias internalization in prebariatric patients. Obesity Facts, 1–8. Advance online publication. https://doi.org/10.1159/000539857

German Psychotherapy Congress (DPK)!
Today we attended the third German Psychotherapy Congress (Deutscher Psychotherapie Kongress, DPK) in Berlin to present 2 talks. In a symposium on a transdiagnostic update on eating disorders, led by Anja Hilbert and Andrea Hartmann, Danielle presented her findings of a dynamic structural equation model on the mechanisms in cognitive behavioral therapy for adults with binge-eating disorder. Ricarda showed us results on family atmosphere and parental psychopathology in restrictive feeding and eating disorders. We had the pleasure of experiencing a really broad and exciting spectrum of topics and an interested audience. Thank you very much.
(Is Die Mannschaft also going to Berlin on July 14 for the European Football Championship final? We are keeping our fingers crossed...).

Panometer - Manometer!
We are still impressed by our trip to the Leipzig Panometer today to visit Yadegar Asisi's exhibition "The Cathedral of Monet". It exceeded our expectations and will certainly leave a lasting impression. A great trip, also afterwards to the Hotel Seeblick.

Award for the PRAC study!
Anja and her team have been awarded the Lilly Germany Foundation's Quality of Life Prize for their research. The prize, worth a total of 10,000 euros, was awarded on April 26 in Bad Homburg for their work in quality of life research. Anja received the award for the PRAC study investigating psychosocial factors that influence the success of obesity surgery.
We are very proud of this award and would like to take this opportunity to thank all cooperation partners involved and, of course, all participants (now over 1000).
